Radio, clock and gig. lighter stopped working after plugging in accessory . Through the 'net tracked the problem to a fuse in the box under the dash. Replaced it and now the radio and clock work. Cig. lighter does not !
What to do about the cig. lighter as I need it for phone etc ? Is there another fuse somewhere or what ?

What exactly did you plug in to make it blow ? Im guessing something with a high amp draw . If you have replaced the fuse and the cig lighter still doesnt work it time to take it out and check the wires

Agreed. The trim around the centre console comes out quite easily. Pop out the ashtray and there are two screws there at the top, a further two under the bottom of the trim and a single screw at the also bang in the centre at the top. It then just unclips, taking the lighter socket with it. Power to the lighter is in the centre and the earth terminal is on the side. If you've got 12V across them (with the ignition on) but the lighter socket still doesn't work then it's time to get another one.reaper wrote: ...If you have replaced the fuse and the cig lighter still doesnt work it time to take it out and check the wires

Would be helpfull to know how it got broken... If it was a power surge it could of fried the wiring
Try a few acessories with a ciger lighter socket... It might be the actual charger that is broken?

Got a little ceramic heater for Christmas ! Problem occurred when I plugged it in !
Had the fascia off some weeks back to put in a unit to use Usb drives through the radio.
Excuse my ignorance but what kind of 'tool' do I need to check the power?

Just a test lamp will do. I have a purpose made test lamp I bought with a crocodile clip on a bit of wire and the lamp it's self has a pointy probe.
I bulb with two bits of wire would suffice. Grab a headlamp bulb and crimp some female spade connections to bits of wire to slide in it and touch the wire to the feeds to the cigarette lighter to see if it's got power to it. If so the cigarette lighter it's self is at fault and if not it's a power supply problem somewhere along the line.
