Difficulty selecting gears was created by coptleigh
Hi
I'm having a problem selecting gears, the gearbox has gone very nothcy, and now I have difficulty selecting 2nd, 4th and reverse. seems when the engine is cold, goes into gear, but as soon as it warms up, then will not shift into the gears mentioned at all!!!!
Is it the clutch? or maybe the gearbox??
Its a X reg and has the M13a engine in, has over 100k on the clock
Any advice please before a visit to the local garage for checking
Cheers
Alan

Jalapeño, IISY?

First I would consider changing the Gearbox Oil - drain it out and put new in.

Is the gearstick more sloppy? Its not unknown for the linkages to break although that wouldn't explain the only working when cold...

Could be the clutch cable has started to fray and thus a smidge longer and close to snapping.
How heavy is the clutch pedal - if it's at all heavy I would suspect the cable and change that firstly, or at least adjust it to see if it helps.
If not, could be one of the other suggestions above - does it go into any of the troublsome gears ok when the engine is off - if so, I would suggest a clutch problem of some sort.
