hi it it nothing to do with the front axle because i unlocked the front hubs as they were locked in all the time as the vacuum does not work and removed the front prop shaft and drove it but it is still nocking and i noticed a pool off oil on the floor coming from the rear axle and it it leaking out off the passenger side drum so any ideas on what that could i think it will be the diff seal or something like that not 100% though any help will be brill thanks

You have probably bent the rear halfshaft on that side.

Jack it up and spin the wheel. It should run straight, I bet it wobbles. The knocking could be the drum touching as it goes around off centre, or the splined end flicking up and down in the differential.

You could even have bent the axle tube, but I doubt it.

Pull the halfshaft (need to to change the seal anyway,) and see if it is straight.

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)

It will makes more noise with no oil in, but if it is coming out the axle ends, it has some in ;)

Don't use old engine oil for anything, except perhaps mixing with creosote to paint a fence  , get some GL5 EP80/90. Not too expensive from a motor factor, just buy the cheapest if you like.

Maybe there is a problem with the rear differential, odd that it would start at the same time as a front wheel hit the kerb though.

You are going to have to pull the halfshaft out on the leaky side to change the seal, you may find there is a problem with the brake on that side, or that the wheelbearing has gone.

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)

Maybe the impact was transferred through the drive shafts and so a uni-joint might be buggered?
