Stir Fry 'Shifter... was created by Beano
Folks, had a look around the forums about this but cant view the pictures from peoples posts...
Got a '52 plate JimJam and for some reason, recently my gear stick feels like im stirring a Wok.
This is both in gear and out of gear, theres loads of excess play on the stick.
Any ideas / quick fixes?
Tar,
Bean

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there

2 possibilities spring to mind.
The stick is actually in a remote housing stuck on the back of the gearbox.
There are 2 crossed bolts joining the remote shaft to the gearbox.
These may just drop out, or they have bushes inside that can wear and give a floppy lever.
At the base of the lever there is a plastic bush that can wear out.
I'd imagine you can get the lever out from inside the car and look for this missing bush.

I had this on mine too. There should be a little bush at the very bottom of the gear stick. It might have fallen out. So take out the gear stick and have a feel inside for a small circular bush. It might be a bit fiddly. Then if you find the bush, push it back into the cup where the end of the gear stick goes and push the gears stick into this bush. Hopefully this helps.
Alternatively, what I did on mine is take the whole shifter mechanism out to get a good look at what's going on. But this isn't really necessary.

Cheers guys, will be having a look after my nightshift tonight!
So this can all be checked from inside the cab?
Also, if the pesky little ring is worn, any ideas where i can get a replacement?

Take the plastic centre console out then it looks like plate 6 comes out from inside the car, then plate 3, then undo 3 bolts through plate 7 and the stick lifts out.
The bush is next to the pink mark.
Not sure about part 8 could fit the large ball on the stick.
You can see that there are loads of bolts to fall out/work loose
Can't see the pink mark, it is the at the bottom above the rectangular plate with the arm on.

The little bolt shown above the rectangular plate on the left goes upwards through the ring eye into the hole in the short shaft, and it falls out
Looks like a major job to tighten it up as well.
Fingers crossed it isn't your problem
