unsolvable vibration... sad.. was created by Soymilkfc
hey guys, the vibration happens only when accelerating below 2k rpm at gear three and four (gear four is worse than gear three).. changed all the mounts checked all the shafts and joints.. all ok.. vibration still there.. from my local mechanics, he says it is engine harmonic.. so any suggestions will be appreciated. thank you guya!

Jimnys are prone to this (They all do that Sir  )

Mine does it too, in 2nd as well, right at the speed that you go turn into a junction and then try and accelerate back up to speed.(1700rpm on the clock is the worst)

Assuming you have checked for loose propshaft joints and nuts & bolts generally.

Diesel Jimnys have a big mass damper screwed to the nose of the rear differential, so my money is on the axle & trailing arm mounts having gone soft with age, allowing the axle& propshaft to vibrate, ( soft engine & transfer mounts will make this worse).

Possible solutions:

1) Fit the damper from a diesel jimny, should screw straight onto 2 holes above the flange.
2) Throw money at it, changing all the rubbers, starting with the ones at the rear axle (You will not believe how much these cost)
3) Don't let it pull at this speed.
4) Ignore it and power through it ASAP

I tend to go for 3&4 ;)

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)

sounds more like the engine is going to stall. trying to accelerate a fairly underpowered engine under 2k revs in 3 and 4th gear I'm not surprised the thing shudders like hell. try changing down a gear.

sounds like your putting a lot of extra load on the engine by having low revs in a higher gear at a slower speed.

to me your mechanic is spot on to the problem.

they will both be doing it just the other one must be in better nick in the driveline department. and engine mount condition probably has something to do with how noticeable it is also.
