CB Radio fitting was created by phippj1
Hi All,
Hoping for a bit of help and advice here. Im thinking of fitting a CB radio to my Jimny, just wondering what other people have done? What CB's radio's they went for and any feed back on there use? How they ran the wires and cables for the aerial and power etc? and where the units were fitted in the vehicle? Any images would be great as well to get idea where best to fit it, etc.
Thanks

Hi,
This is what I did.
Cobra 19 (Something or other. Quite a small rig)
Fastened by small bolts through the head lining and through a piece of 4 or 5mm plywood to spread the little bit of weight of the rig.
Power taken from interior light. (in-line fused)
Homemade bracket bolted behind spare wheel. SWR reading 1 to 1
Twig mounted to base by quick release bayonet connector.
Coax through rear door, through a rubber grommet.
Coax fed through the rubber that protects the rear wiper cable, heated window cable etc.
From the rear, up the offside panel and into the void between the roof lining and roof, exiting at the front by the interior light.
Hope that's of some help
Keith

That's very neat & tidy job Keefe, a man after my own heart, I like all cables out of the way where possible.
Regarding which CB, a little Midland 77 is a handy size, something like this on dbay item # 271082891912 or 110964771229 another worth a look at is Maplins Moonraker #130784892860.

The cable of the antena is going to the back under the carpet. The antena is mounted just like Keefe's.

Thanks for the info guys.
Keefe that looks really neat hadnt even thought of mounting the aerial like that.
I had seen this rig although pricey it has a scan function which I fancy has any one got this radio?

I was thinking I could mount this under the seat or even in the glove box out of the way. The roof mounted one does look great thought keefe.

That is a nice CB, as it says, previously known as Laffayette, these were good rigs in the late 70's, early 80's when the CBing scene took off here.
I had one with an adjustable echo built in. Smashing little rig. Became quite rare and eventually sold it on. At the time I could have named my price, they were so sought after.
I might be interested in one of those rigs myself WHEN the Jim does eventually get back on the road.
