New member with a new jimny. was created by phillet
Hi, I live in Northumberland and have heard a bit about this site so decided I would join and see what it is like, Below is my Jimny.
I have previously been a Land Rover owner, having started with a 1960 S2 followed by a 1989 Land Rover Discovery, however after the clutch on the Discovery died and it spectacularly failed it’s MOT I was left without a 4x4 for three years.
Once getting a new job, I decided to treat myself to another 4x4, I have had several friends who have had Suzuki Jimny’s before and all of them have loved them, and they have proved to be a relatively cheap 4x4 to own and run, so I decided to go for a Jimny. Originally I was looking at a 3 year old (ish) Jimny, but it seemed to make more finical sense to buy a new one, so that is what I have done.
Here she is as I bought her;
And a couple of her first trips out and about.
First off all I added an off road scratch on her, within two weeks off having bought her. (It looks worse - or better dependent on your opinion - in the flesh)
I then put some all terrain tyres on her. (Competus A/T 4x4 - 205 / 70 R15)
Followed by a new bonnet mounted number plate after having lost two number plates whilst laning in the past.
And here she is in her current form, much cleaner than normal
I have a CB fitted for green laning
I am thinking about a some spring spacers to life the vehicle up by an inch or so to stop her grounding as much, but plan to leave her as standard - at least until her warranty is out. After that, well, I have heard rumors an original willies Jeep body fits directly onto a Jimny chasis - that could be fun to try...
I also plan to get underneath the car with some waxoil at some point, and pretty much coat everything I can in it to try and prevent any rust.

2007 Jimny, 45k miles little off road work.
Changed the drop link on the nearside and now there is an intermittent nasty rubbing noise from that front wheel.
So checked and the droplink bolts are nice and tight.
The disc pads are say 50% worn and cannot see any stones trapped near the disc rotor
There is no play side to side or top to bottom play on the wheel and no grease, oil on surfaces.
When you spin the wheel you can hear the pads rubbing a bit but nothing unusual.
The noise would tend to start if you hit a small bump in the road like going over a bit of the road thats just had a repair so only small bumps
No vibration through the steering or brake pedal.
Putting the foot brake on and off makes no differance.
Stop the car wait a moment and the noise goes away then will come back after anything from 2 minutes to 10 minutes.

Sorted by removing the pads and cleaning out a piece of disc pad the size of a 20p piece that had broken off in the middle of the disk pad and pulling the leading edge of the dust shield from the disc.
