can anubody help what causes this king pin bearings to brake so i can try and avoid it in the future and how long should that last on avrage??

Water kills the bottom bearing so they corrode badly, best to avoid any water. Also big tyres increase the stress on them. Best thing to do to prolong them is use marine grease like what is available in the bigjimny shop.

I have not actually had a set wear out on me yet.
I regularly re-grease them if I've been off road much with waterproof grease as has been suggested and as they do not cost too much treat them as a service item and just replace them before they have chance to wear out, along with the axle tube oil seal for the couple of quid they cost.
It's not just the water that get's in the rubbish swivel seals but also the grit that comes in with it, so I wash the bearings out with brake cleaner before re-greasing also.
I might go over the top but I don't want to encourage death wobble so try to keep on top of wear and tear before it happens.
