Can you post the numbers from the emissions test?

Mine tried to fail the test at idle this week, the tester ran it at 4000rpm for a minute of so, and it passed, reckoned the catalyst wasn't hot enough.

Working blind, in order of expense

Check the exhaust for leaks/holes (the tester should have done this) - seal them.

You could check the aircleaner for clogging - change if very dirty

Then you might have a faulty oxygen sensor, a leaky injector,
or the catalyst could be faulty

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)

Wow thank you for reply that's great. Not sure of figures to be honest mate. Only failed on c02 at idle he said. Blooming thing!!!

i am an mot tester have been for years.
go back to the mot station and get them to look for suzuki in the seventeen edition emissions book thay wont find it so it goes through on a basic test ie

co no more than 3.00% and hc no more than 2000ppm and the lambda doesnt come in to it if thay give you some bull sh*t ask for an apeal form and contact vosa

all suzukis are tested this way unless thay pass what is called a bet test first let us no how you get on DO NOT REPLACE THE CAT OR LANBDA SENSOR/O2/OXYGEN SENSOR

Mine was tested last Thursday. As you say, the basic test limits were applied:

at idle just CO <= 0.3%

and at fast idle

CO <=0.2%
HC <= 200ppm
lambda 0.97to1.03

That's what is on my print out from last Thursday ;)

However, same as bazzab mine failed the idle test 'till he gave it a bit of a blast.

I had driven it at about 35 in torrential rain on the A5, and then on wet roads to the station, so it could have been a cool catalyst, it had been ticking over for some time when he tested it though, maybe it just wanted a little clear out.

Try taking it for a blast down the motorway/dual carriageway at 70 odd for a few miles to clear the exhaust, and then straight to the test station if you are on free retests.

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)

that is not a basic emmissions test that a cat test that was carryed out a basic emissions test like you would do on an old for escort IS .CO. NO MORE THAT 3.50% .HC. NO MORE THAN 2000PPM AND THE LAMBDA IS NOT TESTED AT ALL IF YOU CARRY OUT WHAT I SAID YOU WILL FIND THAY WILL HAVE TO RETEST IT FREE AND PASS THE EMISSIONS
