milage to replace the engine timing chain?

Hi, my 2003 Jimny has the DOHC engine witht he timing chain, not the belt. However the service manual I seem to have is the one with the older engine.

Two questions:
1. What is the typical milage to replace the timing chain
2. Is there a service manual with this new type of motor existing?

There is no recommended mileage to replace the chain. It is supposed to last the whole life of the engine.

There is a service manual for this engine, widely available on the Internet. Try a google for 99500-81A10-01E

Provided you keep to regular oil changes with a quality oil, the chain will last the engine out.

(Pity the same can't be said for Vauxhall, my Corsa needs a new chain and tensioner after 30,000 miles :dry: )

BTW> don't "upgrade" to a Grand Vitara with the V6 engine: these eat chains and tensioners :ohmy:

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)

How is the Jimny 1.3 chain tensioned anyone? I thought about mine recently as I watched it clock 60K and wondered about a tensioner. I've not had the opportunity to dig out my service CD.

There is a shoe/plate that is pivoted at the top of the engine, and a tensioner (behind the waterpump) that pushes the other end of the plate towards the crank, and takes up any slack.

Suzuki are fairly good at this, I would stick to Golden Rules #1 and #2


#1 If it ain't broke: don't fix it.
#2 DON'T MESS.

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)
