2001 jimny soft topstarting probs

i am newto this forum so would first like to say hi,
i have just got a 28000 mile jimny on thursday and when driving it it struggles to get to 60 mph it was ok on lower speeds but when trying to overtake it had no power. this jimny was used for the school run so for years never went over 40mph. than today i started the engine and tryed to set off but no power to the engine now it starts but will not even tick over. the verrrrry nice man from the AA tested the fuel pump and it was showing a good supply of fuel. please does anyone know or has had the same problem when i turn it over it seems like it is only fireing on 2 pots.

Are you getting spark at all 4 plugs?

Have you had any error codes read?

Could be a sensor.

it feels like it is only starting on two pots and it wont even tick over now and no not had a chance to put it on a diagnostc as i have just got in from the back of the AA wagon

Whip the plugs out and earth them one at a time on the block and look for spark.

If its a coil pack both plugs from that pack won't spark.

Get back to us with an update and we can go from there.

If it seems like it's only firing on 2 pots it maybe, If you can get it to run at all then do it and then disconnect one of the coil packs on the top of the engine, if it dies then fire it up again and disconnect the other one instead, if it continues to run normally (but lumpy) then you know you have a coil pack or a feed to the coil pack has gone, if by disconnecting either of the coil packs it properly dies then it's unlikely to be a coil pack, my money would go on camshaft position sensor on the back of the engine but another thing you can do if you can get it running is to disconnect each of the injector solenoids one at a time, if the engine changes note, ie gets even lumpier or stalls then you know that that cylinder was working, if it makes no difference disconnecting the fuel solenoid of that cylinder then you know that that pot ain't working for some reason.
