Smoking after ticking over for a while was created by toms dun
I'm a new member found the site brilliant for info. but can't see anything on this please help
my jimny is "98 got about 120 th on clock
after warming up on maybe 25 - 30 mile trip if I have to wait on tick over at road works or traffic lights any length of time . when I then set of I get a white smoke screen as though aload of oil has been dumped into the exhaust the throttle also appears none responsive this has happened acouple of times now after 100 metres or so it becomes ok again

Welcome matey!
Check your oil filler cap and dipstick for a white mayonnaise like substance and your coolant level. Might be water your burning to cause the white smoke from a blown head gasket.
I hope it's not but the mileage makes me think it is, especially if it's a single cam engine.

thanks for that have checked for yougert not found any although have been using a bit of coolant so think your right.
is it much of ajob on jimny Ive done disco and mini gaskets cheers

I don't think it's too hard a job but it's a while since I've seen a single cam engine in the metal. I think taking the manifolds off and rusty studs is the worst part.
You must get the head skimmed or it'll go again!

Before going ahead and strippping the head off, the first thing i would do is a cylinder leakage test just to confirm that the head gasket has gone.
