Crunch when pulling away in first gear was created by edinburghmotorco
Hi,

After a big Sunday at Glentarkie, the car has developed a crunch when pulling away in first gear.

Its in 2H and selector not being moved at all, it sounds like a chain slip on worn teeth and only happens when you first pull away in first gear from standstill, not once the car is moving.

Sounds to me like transfer box but is this a chain driven one?

Anyone's advice would be appreciated.

I don't know much about this but this is from the write up on what to look when buying a jimny:

""Accidently" release the clutch violently when pulling away fast in 1st gear (you know, boy racer spin the wheels style). A loud machine gun noise is a Transfer Box chain so worn its slipping"

JUST A POSSIBILITY?

Cheers, Andy

It is chain driven and people have described similar problems on here before.

Given your build with those tyres, I'd put it in the bin anyway and get a Rocklobster for more suitable ratios.

Contact Rockwatt on here by Pm to be supplied and looked after.

very true, i was long term going to be changing the box but clearly this advances things.

I'll look out for Rockwatt and take it from there.

Thanks

Rockwatt to the rescue, just drove it off the ramp and round the corner sounding like a bag of bolts smashing about underneath it, no trip away tomorrow for me

Unless you take a trip to Scunthorpe to pick one up from him with all the other bits needed for the conversion!

Oh well, if it was gonna get changed anyway, it's not such a drama, just a pain in the arse!
