Help! suspected misfire. was created by Mala43B
Hi when traveling home from a night out camping my Jimny suddenly started to misfire (or at least I think it was) at about 70mph. There was no engine warning light and the temp was reading Ok but the rev counter was jumping wildly with the whole car seemed to shudder.
This is the first time it has done this and it only lasted for a few minutes then it all seemed ok. It started after about an hour of driving on country roads.
My Jimny is a 2001 X REG with the M13A engine has only 70000 miles on it and is Japanese built.

I would have a guess that its the cam angle sensor (sensor at the front top of the engine). They are a common problem with the Jimnys

Ideally you could do with seeing if it's saved any fault codes despite the engine management light not being on.
Have a look at the scan guage Martin and I have got - Martin has done a bit on his on the website. Not all OBD2 scan tools seem to work on Jimny's for some reason.
But if it's not done it since, it might be worth just crossing your fingers and hoping for the best - if you have some break down cover that is!!!
