Is it a black nylon spacer with an aluminium insert?

They're what I have all round, but 2". The guy who makes them reckons that you can fit the rubber spring mount over that aluminium collar, unless he's modified them from what I got there was no way that was going to happen (on the rear ones at least). Having spoken to him I ended up doing away with the rubber and it's bob-on, folk that make simillar versions say to take the rubber out anyway. I was toying with the idea of heating the mounts up in a pan of water to soften them up a bit but couldn't be bothered in the end.

Where do you put the single spacer, at the front or back?

its going to go on the front drivers side spring. so when you say it goes behind the rubber spring mount, is that the thing at the top of the spring and protrudes down the middle of the spring by about 5 inches? does it just pull out, then i fit the spacer and then put the rubber spring mount over the top of it?

Yeah, that's it. Between the top of the spring and the body is a rubber seat, on the front springs it's like an upside-down top hat with a bit that protrudes down through the middle of the spring by an inch or two (on the back the bit that protrudes down is more of a domed/conical shape). With the spring removed the rubber seat should drop out, or it might need a gentle pry out with a screwdriver or something.

When I bought the spacers, the guy reckoned the rubber seat goes between the spacer and the spring - ie from the top it goes: Body - spacer - rubber seat - spring. What I found is that the rubber seats, on the back at least, don't fit over that aluminium collar on the spacer - the OD of the collar is bigger than the ID of the rubber seat. I contacted him and he said it was ok to leave them off and yeah it's been fine. I asked another bloke that sells similar ones and he said most people take the rubber seats off (you lose only a few mm of lift so it's no biggie). He might have changed it so they fit better now.

ahh ok, that makes sense. so what are the rubber spring mounts for if it makes no difference not having them on the car?

Something needs to go there. Without the rubber you'd have metal to metal contact, spring on body - would cause wear and make a racket. The spacers are really taking the place of the rubber seats - they're made of self-lubricating nylon or acetal or whatever it is, so there's little or no wear and they're quiet.

ahh Yeah, that makes sense. well i think ill just leave the rubber spring mount off then it will help make the car more level as i dont really need a full 1" lift on the drivers side. thanks for the info mick :)
