They should be serviced every 6000 mls or 6mths. Whichever is the sooner

How about reading the bloody manual ? even the user manual is very detailed in regard to service intervals and operations that need to be performed.

Now I am sure there is no need for that.
I didn't have an owners manual with mine for about 3 months. Mind you in the factory manual the service interval is 6000ml or 6mths but in the owners manual it is 9ooomls or 9mths. Who do you believe.
When do you get yours serviced??

I'm a bad example for this, as I'm often away for 1-2 months and the Jimny sits still during that time
Using common sense and a bit of judgement together with the manual is a good rule of thumb. Let's say you need to change the air filter:
- manual says inspect every 15k kilometers and replace at 45k and 90k for normal usage and tarmac driving
- under difficult conditions, the manual says to inspect it every 2500 kilometers and replace it if needed.
- considering how much offroad driving I've done since the last change, I will replace it somewhere between 5k and 10k maximum.
Spark plugs:
- normal conditions: replace every 45k or 3 years for iridium spark plugs
- tough conditions: replace every 30k or 2 years
- I change them right after 30k at the first opportunity.
Not that difficult
