Having a bit more of a rummage round the web, it appears that when being driven about normally by the engine there are more bits and bobs moving about at high speed that aid the lubrication of the transmission system. When being towed this is not the case so damage to the transmission system can occur due to lack of sufficient lubrication.

I'm no engineer but it seems to make sense. Apparently you should be able to tow it backwards, in 2H with front hubs disengaged and rear wheels suspended.

Yes I live in Durban.

I have been onto the Suzuki forum but I think it is international.

Good to hear there are others on RSA. Just a question is there a club in Durban.

Thanks so much that sounds like a good answer. A bit disapointing as want to travel into the bush a lot. Will have to get a solution. How do you disengage the front hubs???

Auto hubs are always disengaged when in 2H, but only if the vac system works and that the hubs are not stuck in the locked position. To test jack the front up and turn both front wheels and look to see if the front prop rotates.

Manual hubs that are not fitted as standard have a switch on both sides to manualy disengage them, a'lot of us fit them as the auto hubs are unreliable.
