Another place to check is behind the rear/side trim. Where the boot floor meets the wheel arches.

It was trying to make itself lighter as the 176,000 mile motor needs all the help it can get.
Mind you, the Rocklobster helps with that. 25mph at 18,500 rpm!

you're not far off - fifth gear in low (no rear prop- oops) 25mph at 4000 rpm
