Hello,

Is the vehicle now running or is it in a none start condition?

Now then, the first thing you need to do is check to see if you are getting a spark when the vehicle is in a none start condition? Is it ???

If a continual good spark is present are you getting injection (fuel) if you have access to " Noid lights" use them, if not you can use a test lamp. Failing that you should smell fuel from the exhaust if you continue to crank it although theis not advisable for to long periods as is can cause damage to the Cat.

Do this for me and report back and we can go from there, we can sort this matey;)

Steve.

Hi Steve,

The car runs perfect almost all of the time, it'll just be a bitch every now and then. It seems to have gone away again now, but you know what'll happen tomorrow morning now!

It's never actually failed to start once I've put a bit of throttle down which is the strange thing. But anyway I guess it must be getting a spark as it does eventually fire up. Then if you blip the throttle it will really rattle and jerk.

Ok mate, keep us in the know on what happens.

Keep a note of when it doesn't start. Ie, time of day, weather conditions, rainy, damp, sunny, warm, cold etc.

It sounds like a cooling temp sensor fault, that can cause that exact symptom! But that just a stab in the dark at this stage. You can take the temp sensor out yourself and test it??

Well today was an interesting startup... I turned it to 2 and waited a second then turned it to 3 and it cranked and cranked and cranked and cranked and only when I gave it some gas it just about made it into life. Then it was lumpy so I revved it a couple of times and it piped down.

Once you get it going though it's a very strong engine and there's no further issues.

How do I test that temp sensor? I'm guessing maybe if it's not working right it won't be telling the car to do cold start things like auto choke etc.

Yes you are right. You remove the sensor fromtheengine and put in into a pan of water to boil. As the water in the pan increases the resistance in the sensor decreases. (negative tempeture coefficient )

But you will only get the incorrect readings when the car is difficult to start or in none start condition mode.

I'll have a look for the cooling temp values tomorrow for you to check, I'd just replace it tbh, shouldn't be that expensive.

Ah ok and so I just put a multi meter on there and measure the impedence or whatever at certain temperatures? Should be pretty easy.

Hopefully we manage to find an actual fix as there are a few people online having the same problem.
