Replacement Keys and Fan Belt Changes
The tap is a great idea: drain the coolant into a clean bowl, and it can go back in after the work is done.
Get a plain key cut at the keybar to open the doors (it will turn the ignition, but the immobiliser will prevent it starting the car.), if you snap your key off, put the plastic handle end on the same ring as the keybar key and it will still work with the immobiliser.
Dont lose the key.
If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there

With the keys, your insurance company may not be too impressed about the transponder being taped to the immobiliser but the car thief will.

An idea might be to stick the handle inside the column cover somewhere close to the lock and have a couple of extra keys cut to use as suggested by previous correspondent. I know it reduces security and might enable the system to be bypassed, but better than having only one viable key.
Why not get a thatcham after market immobiliser fitted ?
