Standard Front Fog Light Switch Wiring

I have spent this afternoon fitting a pair of standard front fog lights to my 2001 Jimny.

All was going well, I hooked up the loom that came with them and the went to plug in the front fog light switch I had got thinking there would be a spare unused connector for it behind the dash but it's no where to be seen!?

The red and green cable which terminates in a bullet by the brake servo under the bonnet also terminates under the dash in a bullet? I know the fog loom (white wire) plugs into this under the bonnet with the other two wires connecting to the battery (red/positive) and earth (black/body). If I feed 12v to the red green/white wire the lights come on so relay, fuse and lights all wired ok.

Question is where should I be wiring the switch to under the dash? Red/green wire and ???

Should I use a 12v headlight wire if yes which is it? Or should I just just bring a new 12v feed through from the battery to the switch? I would like the indicator bulb on the switch to come on when the lights are on as well so how is best to wire that?

As I don't have the connector I'm going to solder wires to the switch terminals and heat shrink them.

Any help is much appreciated lads.

It might be worth just wiring them in from scratch if your car's loom doesn't seem to support it the way you thought it might.

The headlamps I believe are switched on the negative side - so if you only want your fogs to work when your headlights are on - which may or not be law - MOT testers on here lend a hand with that??? - you would need to run it through two relays - the one to run the lights activated with a negative switch off one of the headlight negatives.

Thanks Kirkynut.

I opted to wire them from scratch today. Switching the positive rather than negative as that was how the loom which came with the lights was wired... Not sure if that is Suzuki standard or not for fog wiring? They do work without the headlights on, no idea if that is legal but i'm not too concerned, just happy to have it all working!!! B)

Next job.... CB install!

Cool. Do they work when the headlights are off?

Yes, they work independent of the headlights. I think the law is that if they are driving lamps they have to operate with main beam headlights but as they are fog lamps they are independent. Either way I am not some chav that drives round with them on when not needed! They are there to be used in poor visibilty conditions.

Correct me if I am wrong!

That's cool.

If the MOT man has issue, just unplug them and unsrew them - only 3 screws per lamp.

If they aren't on the car they can't be tested!
