Gear Box Converting was created by mostafa
hi all :)

i have my 1999 jimny with SOHC and Automatic Transmession........
now i got a problem with the clutchs, and the control unit of the gearbox......acording to the mechanical, as the problem is:

-when i put on "D" it takes time to shift to the first gear
-sometimes it goes as it is on "N" whil driving
-only first gear comes, not 2,3 or 4 :(

the history of auto transmession tells "THE GEARBOX WILL NEVER BE TOTALL AS IT IS AFTER FIXING" and problem will exist.

now what im thing is one of bellow and i need your support:

-try to fix and current gearbox
-change the whole gearbox
-CONVERT TO MANEUAL GEARBOX

and if im converting to maneual i have some Qs:

-does the vitara 1.6 gearbox fit with my jimny?
-does the suzuki carry gearbox fits with my himny?

suzuki carry:

thanks all

Your gearbox needs a rebuild by a transmission specialist.
A vitara gearbox will not fit.
Converting to a manual gearbox needs a lot of extra parts.

You could try cleaning the transmission filter in the transmission oil pan and fresh fluid, then add some magic fluid like Lucas Transmission Fix to get a few more miles out of it if you are lucky.

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)

To convert to a manual will give you a mental meltdown.
I have a gearbox sat under my stairs as I was going to convert my jimny to a manual then I looked into it and spoke to rhino Ray and he said I would encounter all sorts of problems.
Get another box might be the best option if cleaning it does not work.
You could get a cd manual work shop and see how to strip it.
But I wonder how much the clutchs are going to cost as I bet you cant get copys. :pinch:
If you do a convert you will have to get a manual wire loom, computer and locks and ignition all form one jimny at a breakers plus dash with dials behind. Then a gearbox and a clutch kit, pedals box , flywheel plus bolts. I have a gearbox and a pedal box cheapish.
I sold my auto and got a manual I will never have an auto jimny unless for spares.
