Hi Mick,
I did mine a few week's ago and didn't bother taking the ring off
just took the sensor off.
The sensor is a 10mm bolt and gently prize it out mine was
a bugger to come out as it was a really tight fit.
Is this the bolt you mean????

I didn't bother taking it off i don't think you need to
i also left the backing plate on you don't really need to remove it.
My hub looked like this when i took it off!!!!
