King Pin play, but not leaking? was created by Richard_J
Hi, first post! My wife's 2001 Jimny (we've had it 4years) has play in the drivers side King Pins (with it jacked up, I can rock the wheel top & bottom), but the hub isn't leaking like it did last time they'd worn out. I'm sure it's not the wheel bearing.
Is this definitely the king pin bearings or possible something else??
Thanks in advance.

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there

If the play is still there with a foot on the brake then it is kingpins (or the wheelnuts are undone)
The kingpins are always worn out anyway.
They don't have to leak, that happens later.

Oooops Rich, it appears I've been a member on here since 2007, so you didn't need to register after all!
Cheers Facade, that's what we thought, but just wanted to make sure before we started ordering parts.

Is there oil in the axle? A leak is usually present when there is play!
If you can feel play and it were to be coming from the kingpins they must be very worn.
May be worth a strip down and a quick look see examination to find out what the culprit is.

Thanks. Rich's busy working on it in the garage as we speak, I'll give you the verdict later.
