If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there

GL4 and GL5 is to do with the extreme pressure additive used.
There was a problem with GL5 eating gearbox bushes in some makes of car.
So don't put GL5 in the gearbox as it specifies GL4
GL4 or GL5 will go in the axles.
