2003 Jimny, Vacuum hubs, which gives off a noise as a Click, Slap or Tapping noise from the front off-side wheel in time with the rotational speed of the wheel.
Initial thoughts:-
- Having driven over a newly tarmac road I thought I'd picked up a sticky stone in the wheel tread, but the tyre is clear.
- AlsoI suspected a nail, but there where none.
- Suspected clicking CV joint, however having jacked up the car and rotated the wheel, no clicking only a slight backlash in the gears. Put in 4wd also no noise.
Another test drive and when driven slowly (15mph - 20 mph) clicking loudly, slight pressure on brakes with minimal retardation clicking vanishes and on releasing the brake, clicking instantly returns.
- Brakes smooth and progressive no pulling to one side.
- Just passed MOT 6 days ago. 37,000 miles on clock.
- No off roading yet.
- Toblerone wheels.
- No death wobble or shimmy.
HELP .............................. suggestions

Cv joints may only make a noise when under proper torsional (spelling?) force, I.e when being driven by the engine.
is there any sign of split Cv boots or anything? Clicking any different when turning at full lock?

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there

Mine made a loud click from the offside rear. Definitely the rear, even the passenger reckoned the rear.
Couldn't find anything at all. Louder when turning right, must be wheel bearing.
Spent 10 minutes driving in small circles round the passenger on a car park, won't make the noise.
Had the rear jacked up, took wheel off, nothing.
Gave up and was going inside when I spotted the nail sticking out of the front tyre

I also thought of the torque element.
- When driven and brakes applied, I kept the engine pulling so I was driving against the brakes.
- Tried in 4wd and the same result, brakes stopped clicking and started again on release.
- No splits on the seals and no leaks to be seen.
- I also raised the rear wheels and there was no noise on rear wheels. No nails etc.
I'm off on holiday tomorrow and I will strip down on return. I will also feed back result to BJ.
Thanks to you all, keep them coming!!
