Clutch biting point was created by hulatt
Hi guys!

The biting point on our clutch on our Jimny is really high up at the very end of the pedal travel. Also there seems to be a good inch of travel before the lever engages the clutch. Can the clutch be adjusted or is the clutch just worn out?

Take the black cover of the side of the gearbox and you will see the clutch arm +the cable end if the cable is to loose, Then on the end of the clutch cable going in to the gearbox is a large black turn nut just turn this clockwise till you have just a little bit of play in the cable then your clutch pedal should come up about 1.5" and start to bite.
hope this helps.

Thanks dirtydogz

Have just completed a little research on the clutch cable and thought it may be interest to other non-techie members, so here it is:-

The clutch cable adjustment process is in two stages.

The first is to check the pedal height. Measure the pedal movement between up and fully down - it should move by 140mm. If necessary, adjust it by using the pedal stopper bolt, which bears against the pedal arm above the pivot.

Now check the free play, that's the movement before you feel the resistance of the clutch mechanism. It should be between 10 and 20mm. Adjust it (under the car) at the clutch cable adjusting nut, at the release fork end of the cable. The release fork end should have 2 to 4 mm free play after you've made the adjustment.

see clutch_cable.pdf excert from manual here

Had a check today and the pedal stopper bolt had worked itself loose, so tightened it up solving the problem of the free movement before the clutch engages. The biting point is still within the first inch or so of the pedal travel but the adjuster is seized solid, so as I speak it is soaking in oil.

Thanks for the help! :)

mine is actually 165mm so it needs to go down an inch.

had a look under the pedal :pinch: but couldn't even see a bolt and as I'm "close to death" according to Adam, there's no way I could hang upside down off the seat with my legs around the headrest, might be easier to hang down over the steering wheel whilst doing the splits on the dash.

but good news is - the free play is fine :woohoo:
Guess it's a quick trip to a garage :(
