Are the wheel nuts on Aluminium Wheels different that Steel wheels?

I want to change from Ali wheels to steel. In the parts book they have different numbers, are they really different?

I'm sure you off roaders will know. B)

Thank you.

Just check but if I remember correctly.......

Alloys to steel = ok
Steel to alloys = new nuts/bolts.

I swapped my steel wheels on a Suzuki Carry van for alloys and used the old nuts.
I lost a wheel whilst turning into work and on checkin, the other three had come loose.
The alloy wheel nuts have a larger shoulder. I think(?) the taper is the same though.

Thank you. I'll take a good look at the taper fit and length.

Lots of info on here.

In fact, this is where I got my wheel nuts from for the Carry and my Mazda.
Plenty of reading for you.

It is my understanding that the taper is different and this is why they should be the right type for the wheels.

I think a 60 deg taper is for alloys but this is an impression I have gained over time from reading, not from intended research.

I do not know what the taper is on steels.
