Laws and Fitting of CB Radio?? was created by Green
Hello everyone,

Im thinking of getting a CB radio in my Jimny. I heard that you need a radio license to have one though. Can anyone clarify whether this is true or not??? I would do it without the license but Im a fairly young lad and cops will pull you for near enough anything these days....

Also, fitting a CB....I guess it just requirs a positive feed and a negative for supply then the circuit to the antenna, is that it??

P.S. Anyone going to the Berkshire 4x4 show?

Cheers,
Andrew

You don't need a licence for CB anymore it was done away with years ago.

Its simple to plumb one in, as you've already said just run a positive and negative from the battery and make sure theres an inline fuse on the positive. I used bullet connectors so i can easily remove it if i need to.

Black Jimny's don't get stuck!

If it's under 4 W of transmit power, you're safe. No license needed, CB = citizen's band.

Theory says it's better to connect the CB radio directly to the battery (cleaner power) and not the cigarette socket. I've connected it to the battery though, and I get lots of noise when the engine is on  so experience on your own to see the results.

If you get a magnetic mount, you're good to go. If you're getting a fixed mount, it's more complicated.
