If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there

A cracking sound is most likely dry kingpin bearings.
A knock is play in a steering joint.
To get more self centring reaction you need more caster angle.
Having the axle out of line will make the car crab and steer a bit odd, as well as moving the wheel off centre.

hi facade...
so i need to lubricate the kingpin bearings?
how do i correct a play in the steering joint?
I guess i really have to install an adjustable panhard rod, because the steering sometimes is a bit odd..as you mentioned sometimes "crab-like"..
i think i will install the caster correction bushes later, as i don't need self-centering reaction from my steering too much...
sorry, i'm such a newbie at this...
