Locking wheel nut removal and GG AT2s was created by Nelson83
After my OE locking wheel nut kit nackered (the key socket was worn and so couldnt grip the locking nut), i went round a number of tyre fitters to see if they could get the nuts off. Most told me they couldnt as they were the suzuki ones with the spinnning outer edge and the reverse thread removal kits they had (the same as those from Halfords wouldnt work). I eventually found one that could and after purchasing a new set from Dave at Bits4Vits (spot on service as normal - cheers Dave B) ) i took the truck in to get the old ones off. Well......... after the combined effects of 4 tyre fitters and 4 key blanks for their removal tool and paying £63 for the job    all five are off and my new ones fitted.

I got talking to one of the fitters about the new ones. He said that the new ones were the worse type as they cant take them off as theres nothing to grip onto???!!!! I deliberately bought them as the reverse sockets will work with them as theres no outer spinning edge. Anybody had to have these types forceably removed yet?

I also asked if they could give me a quote for another pair of AT2s as my front pair will need replacing soon. They checked the master computer and said they seem to be discontinued, but were quite happy to fit a set of road going tyres, despite mine being sat outside the window with more cow muck on it than a the tractor at the farm i work at   Does anybody know if this is the case, that AT2s are no longer available? I wont name the place (they took the lockers off for me and im thankful of that) but it isnt a national place but does have a very constant trade in normal car tyres as opposed to 4x4 ones. Im thinking they dont really deal in 4x4 tyres and were trying to fob me off in the hope id say sod it and replace all 5 with road tyres. Ive definately seen AT2s on the net sites so they are available at the moment from some places. Fingers crossed my previous tyre fitters from when i lived in the west country, will be able to get me a set when im next down visiting mates, and they can usually match the supply only prices off the net and that's with them fitting and balancing the tyres as well - good old H+B tyres in Frome!!! :P

AT2's have been "upgraded" ... GG have brought out a new tyre that replaces the AT2

You can get any of them off if you're determined enough ;) Used to work in the trade and as long as there was enough space to get a chisel or punch in between the wheel and the nut with the spinning collar type, it could be broken off and the extractor ( left thread socket ) had them off no problem. All it takes with any other is to give the extractor a knock on with a hammer till it bites then go at it with a bar or airgun. Its harder to get the nut out of the extractor than the lock nut off  battering a tight fitting multi hex socket on works just as well, but kills the socket usually so use someone elses

Was looking at the new AT2 for mine, new rubber / rims going on next month, only prob was they're only about a tenner a pop cheaper than BFG's in 215/75 15 every where I looked. The old AT2 was out of stock or unavailable so guessing the ones left the places that do have them will be the last ones.

The old at2's have been replaced by the AT to meet new noise regulations. I would imagine a lot of the sites either haven't updated the picture or still have stock in certain sizes.

I've seen a disco on the new tyres and they don't "look" as good as the old ones, i'm not sure how they compare in the mud to the old ones though. I would expect them to be more of a compromise than the last ones as the tread doesn't appear to be as open.

Black Jimny's don't get stuck!

you could weld the spinning outer to the nut & use a removing tool then or if you have room weld a standard nut on the end & undo with a standard socket

thats what ive done before to get locking nuts off
