You need proper cv grease in the swivels, the dark grey stuff. I used the normal grease before that says its suitable but it doesn't hold up as well.

It should be labelled as cv joint grease (something like that) as the normal stuff states cv on the front too.

To get the bearing race's out, if you haven't got access to a welder to do as martin has use a small cold chisel or punch against the lip of the race to tap them out. It is a small lip but if you tap all round it soon moves, just be careful not to damage the swivel itself.

Get some disposable gloves for packing the cv and hub!

hiya,

if you are only changing the kingpin bearings you DON'T need to dismantle the hub.

Remove vacuum pipes, remove caliper and hang out of way, no need to disconnect brake pipe.

Remove large seal, (ring of bolts).

Remove kingpins, eight bolts, four top, four bottom.

Draw off complete hub and half shaft assembly.

ALWAYS replace small internal oil seal.

Knock out bearing tracks, gently with a small cold chisel, easy but fiddly.

Clean carefully.

knock in new tracks, (the right way round !), careful.

fit bearings, LOTS of grease.

replace small seal.

put everything back together.

Job done, half an hour each side !!!!!!

I ALWAYS use waterproof grease on the king pin bearings and before any clever dick says all grease is waterproof, its not it can emulsify with water. Water pump or underwater grease is easily obtainable and completely solves the problem of water causing the kingpin bearings to rust.

Only use the correct driveshaft coupling grease on the couplings though because it is high pressure grease and is also anti fling.

If you are an engineer then a grease nipple can just be squeezed in but you do need to know what you are doing.

Hope thats a bit clearer than mud
all the best Bryan D
