changing a starter motor was created by mpmlv
I;ve tried everything now but the problem still exists, tried a new battery and the car started first time, then switched it off waited 5 mins tried again and the same problem reared it's ugly head.....
I've decided to get a recon starter and my brother is going to fit it. Can someone give me some answers on the easiest way to fit one, as I can;t find a manual explaining the procedure, He's fitted starters to other cars but never a suzuki,
Thanks again to everyone who helped.
Pauline.

Personally, one of the worst jobs I have had to ever do ...
easiest way is from underneath.
2 bolts hold the starter on, one on the bottom, one on the top. (you cannot see the bolt ontop).
removal requires you to contort the starter and twist it around.
would be easier if you removed the intake and throttle body.
I can remove mine in about 20 minutes, but last attempt to refit took 4 hours !...
Good Luck !

I agree its not a nice job and unless you want to completely dis-mantle the inlet manifold assembly.
The only other way is from underneath. The problem being that you are laying under the car with your arms at full reach as the motor is high up. As Jason says it needs a lot of wiggling. If you remove all the wiring from the back of the solenoid first then this will help, I would suggest one of those really small ratchets to do that. Then you have to undo the two retaining bolts, one of which you cannot see, if you can get an air-ratchet on this it is a lot easier.

I can re-build engines and have built a whole car from scratch but gave mine to the step father in law as he rebuilds starters and fits them for a living and has a 2 post lift and I understand he didn't have fun - so I'm glad I gave it to him now! I've looked at it's location and don't like it much.
I have to say - working on my SJ410 was so much more pleasant than the Jimny! I just didn't have the facilities I have now when I worked on it and had to work on a muddy ground in the cold and rain - I wouldn't have the patience to do that with the Jimny!
