Right, after sifting through the service history I found I am due a timing belt change..... I am going to attempt this myself after aquiring a how 2 ( never done one before but looks straight forward enough - drain antifreeze, belts off, pully off, timing belt cover off, tensioner and belt out, make sure everythings lined up + not rotation more than 90 degrees, new belt on with no slack on drive side....reverse the rest )
I also plan to change the engine oil - 10w30 fully synth, air filter, oil filter, plugs ( just ngk's not iridiums )
Checked bearings, brakes, plan to check clutch cable and check underneith, plate the dodgy bits under bonnet/boot etc
Is there anything else I should consider? Especially with regard to diffs and gearbox etc?
Any advice ( as long as its good advice ) is very appreciated - especially an official service interval for individual componants
Bert

Black Jimny's don't get stuck!

If you're not sure when it was last replaced it may be worth dropping the diff oil too.
I'd not bother paying the extra for fully synth either, semi synth should be fine, I'm reasonably sure its 10w40 too unless the dohc ones use different oil.

Diff oil is easy, davet talked to me about it but after changing transfer oil yesterday realised its daft not too.
Filler plug clearly visable on top half of both diffs, drain plug obviously nearer bottom.
Fill till it comes out of the filler, around a litre. Bit plumbers tape i used on the threads, nip up...jobs a gudden.
Ive just got one of them oil suction things from machine mart to re-fill.. makes it a bit easier.
Diff oil
80/90
Transfer oil
75/90

Probably a stupid question, but should it be vacuum filled to remove any air ( obviously the vacuum is removed after ) or does it not need to be 100% oil ?
The suction tool looks liek a grease gun with a pipe on it and no handle, never seen one before

You might have trouble removing the diff filler plugs if they've not been out for a while or never been out.
A 3/4" ratchet should fit ok.
If they won't undo the square you put the ratchet into could round off inside and then you have to resort to knocking a chisel into it to knock it round with a FBH!
So check to see if they er gonna come undone before you drain any oil out and buy new filler plugs or you'll be in a pickle with no oil and no way of filling them back up!

is the filler plug a square socket or do you mean just use one because it fits?
If its a square surely it shouldnt round off - if its a torx or similar I have many..... and I barely ever use ratchets with sockets lol - stillies and a bar works better

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there

It was me with the syringe
Always undo the filler before you undo the drain plug. For some reason the rear diff. filler plug seizes in, and nothing will remove it, except the BFH and a nice chisel(not too sharp mind)
Several people me included, have filed a square on a piece of hexagon steel and welded it into the rear filler bung.
The plug is a square, I think a 3/8 drive doesn't fit properly, so it knocks the corners out and goes round.
I have a Bluepoint (Snap-on's economy range) drain plug undoing kit, and none of them fit properly either.
The capacity figures in the handbook are wrong, I used an extra bottle of axle oil and gearbox oil when I serviced mine

This is why I love ( some ) forums...... you cant beat personal experience.
Thanks for all the advice given - I will change the oil when I service her even if its already been done and not documented as its impossible to tell.
I really cant wait to mod her like many on here, however essentials come first

I must say tho the fluid specs martim put up was spot on for the transfer .8 of a litre But believe what facade says so will buy 3 ltr to do both diffs.
Mine had a magnetic plug in too?
Whats the service routine for diffs, like intervals? Gonna do them next.
Agree though the ratchet isnt a perfect fit... bit loose but worked on the transfer ok. Welding an extension in would be good! Just gonna soak mine in wd40 a few days before and each day leading up and pray haha.
