Jimny age? was created by Karendonnelly105@aol.com
I have had 4 seconds hand Jimnys over the years and always moved on due to the rust situation. I now crave a Jimny again but am on a low budget. I know this is subjective but would like advice, I would be using it for day to day driving.
What age should I not go below? Mileage? any other advice would be great

Unfortunately I don't really think jimny condition is really related to age. Some of the very last 2018 gen3 cars are showing surface rust if they haven't been given a treatment or looked after in a dry garage. But equally there are some very early 1998 versions that are remarkably clean for their age. And there's everything in between. The reality is that you have to read up on the usual areas of rust and keep looking at as many cars as it takes to find a good one. Manual cars between 2005 and 2009 can have gearbox bearing problems though many will possibly have been repaired by now.

As lambert said there isn't really a particular age & mileage to avoid although my saying to everyone is try to buy the newest Jimny possible for the best chance of no issues but as he said even newer ones can be rusty depending on usage and how it's looked after. It may take a while to find the right one & if your budget is that low then it may not be possible at all.......

Finding a local Jimny with low milage and a sticker on the rear window from a reputable (local and well known) undersealing company is like the holy grail here in Norway. But a bit better here as all cars are treated better on import. Still they all rust sooner or later depending on use and neglect.
I Think it is better to wait and see, find the right car, and not buy the one with a fresh coat of underseal over rust you cant see anymore.
And there is most likely better economy in a car with less rust and more milage than the one with low milage but bad or missing underseal and rust..
edit: I personnally would not buy the G13 engine, and would find one with ABS brakes because of winters here. I would never buy the spanish ones (O2/cab), and I like manual.
Here in Norway some of the autos have been owned by old geezers driving them carefully and they can have both low rust and low milage.
