Normally the wires for the bumper pass through a grommet in the body accessed by removing the bumper and looking behind the rubber flap on the passenger side. Once in there it will be fairly obvious if someone has been in before you and butchered the loom for trailer lighting.
Same side on mine, the cars left side. My plug in wiring loom for the hitch hook up inside the car behind the left side rear panel.
(wich is a bit fiddly to remove) 
But i think you can just reach one of the plugs behind the left rear top lamp by pulling the wire a bit. Same with the bumper loom, might just reach it by pulling out through the grommet..
Depends how tight they strapped the loom inside.
