Hi all.
Newbie hear from Down Under, Wagin Western Australia.
Considering the purchase of 2004 JLX Jimny with 255K on the clock.
Owner conceded may have head gasket issue.
As I'm new to Jimny is there anything I need to be mindful of, as yet to inspect.
I have a reasonable DIY background, mosty og big V8's.
I see many swap out to a M16A engine, most 2nd I've seen in Perth are from Vitara's.
Is that realistic?
Any info, guidance much appreciated.
TIA
Kappy

Head gasket is a relatively straight forward job for the competent mechanic. My question would be what are you buying it for? Is it to be a project to play with so being off the road for a while isn't necessarily a problem? Or is it going to be someone's main transport and therefore needs to be ready to go wherever? I don't know what the market is out there but if it's not a project car I'd keep looking for one with a few lower miles.

Thanks.
Is head gasket a common issue?
Its likely to be a project for me to play with or either flip, but mostly to keep.
I'm a grey nomad, plan to put Jimny on my trailer with my Indian motorcycle and tow behind my motorhome and travel Oz.
Pick up price around $4k AUD plus repairs, alleged quote around $3-5k.
Low K jimny's of same year still fetching $15k.
Inspecting on Saturday

If you look after the cooling system like occasionally changing the coolant and are carful to clean the radiator of mud if you go off road then you will usually be fine however if it does overheat then it's done.
