Viv and I have christened it "the squirrel alert" as it was a squirrel running across in front of Tonka that set off the alarm the first time. Yes you can switch it of but it needs doing each time you start the car and I keep forgetting. This time the brakes were applied full on with no apparent ABS kicking in but lots of graunching noises which was rather disconcerting.
Memo to me:

Switch that damn alarm off!

Try pushing & holding for a few seconds (until it beeps), on the Vitara that turns it off and it does not come back on until you turn it back on.

It's happened to me twice I think, unfortunately both times have been when the road has been clear, rather than avoiding a collision.

Hi Fordem.

Its interesting to note that on the Vitara you can switch it off and it stays off until you switch it back on, but on the UK version this is not possible. I did ask Suzuki Customer Services if it was possible but they said no, which leads to the question, has anyone found a way to thwart the system?

A member on here (forgot their username but many thanks) suggested using a 555 timer circuit to reverse the function to default off, only activated on the push of the switch.

I have just done this mod by making up a plug in circuit so it can easily be returned to standard (no cut wires) and confirm it works perfectly, parts used cost approx. 10 euros delivered from *liexpress. Can give you the links if required in a new post
