A dab of left foot braking would probably have helped, but difficult to tell without being there or seeing the exact situation.Personal experience - Mitsubishi Pajero with a torsen rear LSD, left two wheels on grass, right two wheels on asphalt ...

My point is the Quaife and any other torque biasing LSD requires some degree of traction on both sides for it to be effective, and that is not always present off road, or, as in the scenario I described, not guaranteed, even on road.
Choose your traction aid based on your planned usage.

That also works on an open diff - the next thing you're going to suggest is fiddle brakes.A dab of left foot braking would probably have helped, but difficult to tell without being there or seeing the exact situation.

Left foot braking with an ATB is also a well established practice.

It can help with open diffs, but the results are massively different. Again, please watch the video of the Land Rover's I posted earlier. It is very clear to see how the diffs work and how they make 4 wheels spin instead of 2.

But driven correctly it would likely have provided enough traction aid to allow you to make progress or drive off. But as said, without seeing the exact scenario, it is very difficult to answer via a keyboard. My point is the Quaife and any other torque biasing LSD requires some degree of traction on both sides for it to be effective, and that is not always present off road, or, as in the scenario I described.
