Whatcha. So I'm just about a thousand miles into bellerophon and it is becoming very apparent that i have been spoilt by automatic gearboxes. First is simply not low enough. In high range it's about 6 mph which is horrible for manoeuvres so I end up dipping the clutch. Low range is about 3 mph which having the hubs means I can use that on hard surfaces for manoeuvres but it's not a perfect solution and off road it's too high for rounding up sheep at a nice slow walk which is way better than chasing them at a run, so again I keep dipping the clutch.

So I'm wondering if anyone has directed themselves to putting a set of gen3 205 70 tyres on a gen4 and how did it get on? This is before I leave temeraire on axle stands and try for myself.

Temeraire (2018 quasar grey automatic)
One of the last 200ish of the gen3s, probably.

They are about 4% smaller than stock, so may just give that little extra that you need.
I have 235's on my auto and decided to go with t-case reduction gears (17% high, 87% low), mainly to assist with towing a trailer. Towing is now a pleasure.

While the maths says smaller tyres will help, I personally feel the difference is likely to small to really notice.

Once I've found someone to fit some replacement transfer box gears I'll be going with the Sumo Gears reduction. For the manual Gen 4 there is 17% less in high with 104% reduction in low. When I number crunched it, low 2nd ends up very similar to the stock low 1st, so giving a much lower low 1st.

Only issue is, you get the reduction in the high range set too. You'd want a minimum of 235/75R15 or 205/80R16 to keep anywhere close to stock on road gearing. Not so much an issue if you aren't on the motorway or dual carriage ways much. But 215/75 or stock tyres would likely make it quite buzzy on the road.

Here are some gearing and tyres size examples to give an idea. I personally was never considering 205/70R15, so they aren't included though.

With 235's and 17% high reduction, my auto runs at 4100 rpm at 120kph, which was the same as my old Gen 3, so it doesn't bug me.
