Often, as well as triggering the beeper, that switch is used to disable the remote locking if the key is in the ignition. You never notice until that switch breaks and you wonder why the car won't lock! (because you have to be holding the key to press the button, so it is never in the ignition)
You might be able to lock yourself out of the car if you try really hard while the engine is running- maybe closing the door with the handle up could trigger it
If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there

I followed that link today as mine was being particularly irritating this morning, and it occurs to me that it is the "key in the ignition" switch you are disconnecting.Good so it's just like the 3s and doesn't seem to upset the rest of the car. Excellent.

Just tried that and it seems that lifting the handle is the only way to do that. Fortunately it's not something I am in the habit of doing. I'm more likely to leave a door open than ever lifting the handle. I seem to remember that subaru was good at locking the keys in and that taught me that lesson. Cheers for the heads up.

I'm not sure you can disable it. If you're in & out of gates can you not just leave the car running so it doesn't beep? If your out the car for a while then just turn it off with the keys out of the ignition? I usually leave my jimny unlocked all day at work with the keys in my pocket and it rarely locks itself. Sometimes I also leave the keys inside and it hasn't locked me out yet!!!

I'll keep observing what it does in different scenarios but on the face of it it's behaviour is the same as temeraire and dreadnought who had the beep disabled for over a decade between them.
