bought new end bushing for 2009 1.3 petrol gear shifter however it does not connect with the base at the bottom any advice welcome

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there

Unless I'm not understanding the diagram, I don't think that is the right part.
It looks to me as if that is the bush for the dangly bracket (25) that supports the remote extension (23).
I've never seen one, but I'm assuming that you drop the eyelet plate (24) over the ball on the dangly bracket (25) then click the split bush (30) over the ball and bolt the eyelet plate up onto the remote bracket- sandwiching that bush between the plate & bracket.
The bush you want will be on the same slide as the gear lever.
