Wax treating Gen 4 Jimny

Do people think it's worthwhile getting a Gen 4 Jimny Waxoyled (or similar) 

Our 2020 SZ5 wasn't showing any rust underneath, but l've just had it done at my local Suzuki dealer, looks like they did a great job but do the new Jimny's rot like the old ones can?



 

I had my 2019 SZ5 done last year. It just had the signs of surface rust starting to form and now my 2023 Blue LCV is also just starting to see faint orange around some of the joins. I also wanted it done because as the car gets older its starts to get grubby underneath and doesn't look so colourful as it was new so I think the black waxoyl has smartened it up. I do however think many people go ott when it comes to rust proofing a Jimny as from what I've seen it's not actually the chassis that really rusts on a jimny, It's the bodywork that will rust over time. Body mounts, sills, boot floors, seatbelt mounts, behind bumpers & front slam panel are all areas that tend to rust out on Jimnys. The Gen 4 has a lot of Rust traps. When we replaced one of the plastic wheel arches the car was caked in mud behind it and this was only a year old and never been off-road. It will be interesting to see how Gen 4s fair over time as it seems a lot more people have been looking after them and have had them protected underneath so perhaps they will stand a better chance of surviving in the future. I have some stone chips in my blue lcv which I need to get sorted asap before the exposed metal rusts.

I did bellerophon as soon as she got home and she looks good on it. Quite honestly I would sooner not find out the hard way if the 4s are just as good at rotting as the 3s. Also farm life, sheep aren't as corrosive as cows but still.

15 years ago I bought a four year old VW T5. paid what would be approx 800 GBP to get it extra treated underneath in addition to the original treatment. Still got the car now 15 years later and it holds up well.

My 05 jimny had been treated when I bought it, but just on the surfaces and very poorly done. so I have been doing the insides and body cavities and some parts of the chassi, but sadly postponed some parts. Life came in the way and 10 years later I had to weld 3-4 chassi brackets, and 3-4 holes in the chassi rusted from the outside/bottom. And last year a large portion of the rear corner, possibly an old collission damage.

There is no time to loose, treat your car now and save lots of money later!

I have an import Sierra coming today in about an hour. It's going in on Monday to get the underneath black wax oiled. I have no intention of ever selling it and who knows how long they will be available for. Money well spent imo.
