Both times my coils failed the coil cut out completely causing the engine to only run on two cylinders on the remaining functioning coil. it was either on or not and failed only when hot.
However coils are easy to source used as they are the same more or less on all g13 and m13 engines on the period correct jimnys, swift, liana, baleno or whatever is available in your corner of the world. I was lucky enough to have a swift and a jimny and a jimny engine and a baleno enginge so together 8 coils between them to swap around from. Bought a new coil online for cheaps but swapping them around so much I am not sure wich ones I am using now.
Had high revs at idle recently along with no fault codes, I cleaned out and freed off my idle control valve, seemed clogged with carbon. Since then it has cured my running issues. This video I found on YouTube is a pretty good guide. Also brought a new throttle body gasket and used EGR cleaner on the throttle body. Not a bad job tbh. Hardest part was getting the screws out.
I took the throttle body off and gave it a clean with EGF spray, and the IAC valve too. It was well crusty in there. I also did change the coils and I was going to change the PCV valve too but I bought the wrong one so I cleaned it up with some brake cleaner and it rattled a bit more freely after that.
Engine now idles at less than 1000 rpm. Winner! Thanks for all the advice
