Hello,

I am looking for a compatible roof rack for the Suzuki Jimny 2005. Looking at Thule but their website compatibility list does not include the '05 Jimny. I think the 118cm Thule Wingbar Evo is the correct type for the Jimny. The purpose is for 2x kayaks. Can anyone confirm if they have a Thule roof rack crossbar for their 2005 Jimny?

Thanks.

Are these to go with the rails or are you planning to remove those and bolt on directly to the roof?

The roof load limit for any Jimny is 30kg, and the standard plastic/aluminium roof bars were built to carry that and no more when they were new, before 20 years of exposure to the elements. They can and do break when used with anything remotely heavy, or anything generating wind drag. I would not trust them with a kayak, and 2 kayaks will certainly be over the roof weight limit.

If you remove the factor roof rails you are left with 8 M6 studs protruding from the roof. I fabricated some steel cross bars that attach to these for carrying my kayak and other long things. Any remotely competent fabricator would be able to make you something similar for less than the cost of a set of Thule roof bars.

But you still need to be aware of the 30kg load limit. The Jimny is a very small car, relatively tall, narrow, with soft suspension and vague steering. It's far from the ideal vehicle to carry heavy loads on the roof!
