I had to take the passenger seat out the other day as it needed maintenance. While out it made me think that I could design a demountable continuous deck for my solo trips. Not a full overlander to live out of but something more comfortable than a tent and cheaper than a Travelodge. Has anyone done something similar that they are willing to share with the community, I promise to only plagiarise the best bits!

I've seriously considered something diy and rough & ready along the lines of what this chap has done.

Fire up your Google Translate and search Japanese YouTube. Home market Jimny fans do so much more with these cars than anyone else, and converting them to day vans is very popular there.

Friend of mine from Denmark have no passenger seat when we go on trips. He made a box in the place of the seat for tools and most important a cup holder for the coffee in the lid.
Had to leave camp last weekend in a hurry to get out of the weather and threw everything into the car it is a total mess as usual.
I havent had people in the back seat for years so I will look into making something like drawers for euro boxes like i did in the rear of my trailer.
Approx the same gray boxes Bart use.
Cheap ish and much better quality compared to the opaque boxes from like Halfords.

I've been watching a few more day van videos and having had a cursory tape measure session I am thinking about taking the head rest off the passenger seat and inclining it forward from it's furthest back position to the dashboard and using it as a pillow/backrest for a three quarters high level deck/sleep platform above my existing rear deck such as to retain the lower surface as storage. I need to do a mockup to test the premise as leaving the seat in is easier but doesn't increase storage or offset weight.
