Our new Jimny nearly ready - excited

Oh, shinny 

So we got out to the beach today, took the missus for her first ever 4WD on the beach, great beach for first timers, go at the right time and the sand is really pretty solid, plenty of other cars about enjoying the beach so if you managed to get yourself stuck they will help you out.  But theres like 15 km of beach so you can find your own empty space to pull up and enjoy.

Gave the new fast deflator and air compressor a test run, Jimny takes no time at all to air down and up.  Really probably didnt need to at all tbh,  theres one part with soft sand right as you get on the beach   and has a little hill but reckon could have probably done it in 2wd with full pressures.

Interested that the dealer / Tyre place put the Kumho LT215/75r15s on at about 35 psi, they work well on the road at that pressure and there are a few extras that add weight on this Jimny, bullbar, tyres, etc  But thats quite a bit more than the "normal" rated psi.  although the sticker inside states 26 front 31 back I think which is above what I read so maybe they put a new sticker after the gvm upgrade ? also the sticker mentions the standard tyre size of 195/80r15 ? either way I took them down to about 15/16 just to make sure and it handled everything, and it ate up the sand like it was nothing   will give it a proper go on soft sand probably the Christmas holidays when we will probably go to 5 rocks which has a few kms of soft sand through the bush to get to the beach, and if i recall one fairly big hill half way along and a fairly tough exit from the beach with a fairly sharp left hand turn on the hill that plenty of people struggle with.

Obey the road ruoles, they even have speed limits sign posted  almost makes you want to be a traffic cop so you can patrol the area

Very nice, the last time I saw the sun like that was in Scotland nearly 2 weeks ago, it reached 25C, a record for September.

There aren’t many/any beaches in the UK you can drive on, some fishermen and people launching boats go on the beach but it’s usually, just off the end of the slipway.

Finally got around to uploading some video from out little tour we did around south east Queensland to get used to the car.

One thing I found, it really doesnt like Hills, well steep ones anyway, poor thing struggled a bit getting up mount tambourine but did make it, some spectacular waterfalls there, and glow worms come out at night which was different.

went to a 4x4 park that features a hill they call "Beer OClock Hill" can only attempt it form 4pm Saturday under supervision, and apparently they dont let Jimnys up because they are too short a wheelbase, unless they have a full roll cage, but was good to watch people attempt it, probably 20 or more people tried to get up and only one made it. here is his triumphant run


we did find some nice tracks, didnt attempt anything tricky but was fun to cruise through the bush and find some amazing views.

I found that it was very capable on the highway, if you had the cruise control on it would often drop a gear on slight inclines to hurriedly keep to the speed you set, but it was perfectly capable over overtaking the big trucks if you wanted it to. Its a bit thirsty but hoping the engine will settle after a few thousand Kms and get a bit better economy out of it. Drive wise it was perfectly comfortable for me as driver at 6'3 ish, not quite as comfortable as a passenger

Also discovered that when driving all day the dash cams only hold a couple of days of footage, maybe 3 so maybe worth a memory card upgrade otherwise would have had more good footage not just recorded from the phones

Overall very fun.

Should be going to some local tracks this weekend as we bumped into a 4x4 club meet at the local park and got chatting to the couple of jimny owners there, so hopefully we can tag along and find some more fun places to go.

Will update this post if we get any good photos or videos

Glad one made it up 'beer oclock hill', pity it wasn't a Jimny.

What great weather and trails you have, thanks for sharing. It's raining here and with the mist I can only see about 150 yards and that is nearly lunch time. Packing my Jimny in to a bag and flying down your way looks appealing.

If you search beer oclock hill on youtube you will probably find heaps of attempts, and I think that there is one Jimny that made it up, had a full external roll cage, the guy who runs the place explained he doesnt let them up I think its because the short wheelbase makes it likely that they will roll and someone will get hurt as parts would be near vertical for a Jimny.

We are lucky with the weather here, but when it rains, it comes down hard, but it also means we dont get to play in the mud much. However it is rainy season at the moment, and this weekend we plan a trip that the last time I went out this way had some muddy spots, so if we get some footage I will add here

The Kumhos are decent, I would have gone with BFGs but for the price, they look cooler and are probably tougher tyres, but quite a bit more expensive.

Still want to do a few things, probably under body protection and diff breathers next up.

Then a long range tank, torqit exhaust and airbox.
Maybe some.rock sliders.
tempted.with an awning and rood rails of some sort, but prefer not to have anything up there if I can avoid it.

may also get a throttle controller down the track but want to cruise around for a good while.without one first.

one thing I found is that with the little.center console cup holder that lots of people.aeem.to buy, it doesn't.like to go into low range so when that's required that little thing gets removed.  It doesn't really server much purpose anyway in reality can hold a can of.drink and a few coins but not.much else.

yep we stay well away from the ocean when on the beach, and the car always gets a good hose down and foam bath after we get back.

I have an old (2005) navara that's been on the beach a fair bit and still seems good as gold by doing g the same thing with it.  Mostly just get sand in the underbody rails that need hosing out if anything but to be sure we are careful to stay out of the water or even the really wet sand when on the beach,  but it's a wonderful place to drive, should be going to 5 rocks in a few weeks which has a good few kms of dunes to drive through to get to the beach do really soft sand which can be a challenege but is also quite fun.
