New to the forum. I’ve just bought a 24 Jimny LCV and want to fit Bf Goodrich 215/75r15 (seems to be a standard upgrade) to the stock steel wheels but every tire fitter chain online says it can only fit 205 non bfg tyres for me. Does anybody know Where can I get this done? I’m in Kent but I don’t care about travelling to get it done.

Have you already bought the tires and just looking for a place to get them fitted? If you haven’t bought the tires yet try through black circles and select for a nearby tire shop to fit. I got my dealer in Bristol to fit mine for me when the cars were new. I suspect the main tire chains don’t want to know if you haven’t bought tires through them so I would try and find a back alley garage near you.

Have you tried speaking to any tyre fitters?

The very small town I live near must have 10-20 places that fit tyres and/or supply tyres. I struggle to believe they are a rarity even in Kent.

205/70r15 was the standard size for the Gen 3, up to 2018, the Gen 4 uses 195/80r15, so all of those places you looked at are living in the past.

My local tyre fitters put 215s on my Gen 4 no problem and I supplied my own tyres.  If you haven’t already got the tyres, Blackcircles, as already mentioned is a good starting point.

Our local BlackCircles tyre fitting centre doesnt like fitting mud tyres but this is only because BlackCircles do not pay them enough per tyre to fit them. Talking to him, Blackcircles brings in the business to them but its low value. The payment they get assumes that the tyre fits straight on and requires minimal effort. With chunkier tyres they can spend their fitting allowance on the balance weights alone. However once I found a £20 note with the word "Beer" written on it in my pocket I found myself welcome to bring my cars around anytime and at the front of any queue. The £5 extra that represents per wheel that keeps the business happy and me happy so is good value. As James said, on the new cars the tyres were fitted at the dealer although the tyre fitter did also say that it was a difficult fit.
