Suddenly that 3 year Suzuki Service Plan looks not bad value and having learned that the Jimny now has a 7 year warranty - I can be more relaxed about the future.

To be honest the servicing is so easy to do on these they are so reliable I’d go DIY or independent garage after the first and second service, just follow the manufacturer’s recommendations and keep records ..

I keep paying through the nose for services that I could do myself for a lot less money and trouble, because I want the stamp in the book to keep the value- it is the only car I've ever had that is worth more after 4 years than when I bought it!

I got the warranty extension last time, which is worth it I suppose if the gearbox oil seal lets go or the camera gives up as reported in Australia.

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)

Well I could have saved money by DIY servicing but the resale value of my old Jimny with a full Suzuki dealer history proved zero financial benefit in getting my hands dirty. To reinforce the comment from .'facade' - buy a car, drive it for over 4 years, have it dealer serviced and realise several thousand pounds more than the original cost of purchase - was a pleasant shock!

Take the vehicle somewhere else for a service, you don't have to use the main dealer.
lt's not a Ferrari, any reputable garage will be able to service it and stamp the service book.

Suzuki servicing is expensive but there are sometimes bargains for specific jobs. When the clutch release bearing started chirruping on my 2014 Jimny (not long out of warranty - probably undergreased at the bearing factory), a full main dealer clutch job was £500. Obviously you always replace all clutch parts when the gearbox is out of the way, even if it's just a bearing. I had to have a clutch job on an MX-5 once because of a bad £3 spigot bearing!
