High Mileage 2006 Jimny

I purchased a high mileage 2006 Jimny with 131,000 on the clock. The body is solid and has been well looked after. Very happy with my purchase although I think I might have paid a tad over the odds for it. When looking to buy I was surprised how much secondhand Jimny's were being advertised for.
Just curious to hear how many miles other peoples Jimny's have done. Paid just under £4,000 for mine. I did see some slightly cheaper but they didn't look as good as the one I ended up with.

If the engine has been looked after you will have no issues at this mileage
Is it hard or soft top ?
If it's the vvt engine you can always change it out for M15 or 16
15vvt comes from ignis 16 from liana

It is the VVT also the hard top. The engine seems fine as no oil leaks and sounds ok. I have had to replace the coil packs and plugs also it needed a complete exhaust inc cat converter, which wasn't cheap.

Had to calculate now as we use kilometers here.
This milage is not uncommon. Drove one that had done over 200000 miles and it was running fine. Was not so easy to sell here with rust so it was exported.

I just checked with dotgov and my old 2000 one is still MOT'd & taxed and has done 160,000 now, it had done 127k when I sold it and was running fine.

I shouldn't have traded it in for the gen 4, IIRC I got £850 for it, it is probably worth well over £2000 now.........

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)

As a rule of thumb, gen 3 Jimnys have doubled in price since 2020. Many now cost considerably more than they did when new. It's the unavailability of new ones combined with the general lift in used car values.

I actually traded it in because I reckoned it had at most another MOT in it before it needed welding. Under the headlights and around the rear bumper body mounts were going.  The Dinitrol had done a good job holding it back for 10 years.

The current MOT has flagged corrosion at the rear, I wouldn't be surprised if I don't see it next year, but I suppose the high value is worth £500 on welding.

It was the desirable model, the first of the M series engines, cheap tax (on an X plate- the massive hike for emissions came in for Y) and had the proper split folding rear seats.

It was much better appointed inside than the Gen4 too, no bare metal showing, comfy seats (and that split fold), non slippy seat backs/ boot floor and a proper temperature gauge ;)

(I traded it as it wasn't worth dealing with all the timewasters & chancers, and then have someone bring it back complaining about some "fault" for about £150 more by the time they'd knocked me down to £1000)

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)

I paid £3,800 for a 50k miles 2005 VVT automatic earlier this year. The exterior bodywork was all great and it had recently passed an MOT. No AC (standard JLX edition?) and the rear interior plastics had some gouges from presumably previous owner's dog but whatever.

I thought I got a reasonable deal but after getting it home and taking a proper look (removing interior panels, getting pokey with a screwdriver) I realised the rear arches and boot panel were pretty badly rusted and would definitely need doing unless Stevie Wonder was available for another MOT. I have now paid thousands on getting it repaired and lanoguard'd which has turned what seemed a good deal into a pretty meh one but at least it is done.

That said, used Jimmers go for serious amounts even in spite of being rust buckets. You'll see them semi-regularly in "top 10 cars for retaining value" type lists and indeed I think the Gen 4 demand has overflowed into the Gen 3 used market. The cheapest automatic VVT / facelift Jimny in the UK right now on Autotrader is listed at £5,500 and that's a 2008 with 92k miles. Dealers have them listed at like £8k+ which is bananas. That's for automatics though which command as much as a 50% premium because they're less common.

For you? I wouldn't overthink it and frankly 131k miles isn't outrageous. If the corrosion is minimal then consider yourself blessed. No backsies now - welcome to the club!

I tried my best to check for rust before purchasing. Fingers crossed I have been fortunate. I have removed the rear seats and no signs of any rust on the floor panels. It was up on ramps having a new exhaust and I had a good look round and apart from a bit of surface rust all looked good.
I was a fabricator/welder many years ago, so if needs be I could do some welding on it.

When I was looking for a Jimny before buying mine someone was advertising an auto Gen 3 Jimny on Gumtree with very low mileage (under 40,000). I messaged the person who told me it was her mothers car and had been used for pottering about town. Unfortunately I was slow off the mark and it went within hours of being advertised. It was being advertised for £4,000 ono.

We've just paid £11.5k for a 2012 auto with 49k on the clock. Silly money for an old car - could have had a 2019 Renault Zoe, which is auto by default! - but a bit underpriced for a Jimny now. MOT history has no advisories on corrosion, which is unusual. There is a bit of rust behind the headlights, which seems otherwise solid, but the boot floor and underneath looks quite nice (I don't think many car dealers expect buyers to spend half an hour underneath with a torch!).

Condition is far more important than mileage. The M series engines will do over 150,000 with minimal servicing. The earlier G series may need a head gasket before then, but are otherwise solid.
I've seen a 60,000, mile, 12 year old Jimny still on the orginal set of tyres and the body was completely rotten!

Yep, and per above M series engines that OP has got are timing chain driven - not belt as the earlier G models are - so much less of a worry there.
